You shouldn't lose your sponsorship if you go home. Many spouses do this, especially ones with small children, because of the support they have at home in the states.

well, the post is big enough. PM's patrol it alot. so watch your speed. housing there in pretty nice, and BAH is high enough. but once again it is just like any other military post, it's a little bit more secure due to the NSA. but other then that, it's nothing to worry about... just take a trip up there, and you can see for your self.

This is your personal descision, and there's no absolute guarantee that your husband is going to be deployed. If you have a strong support system in the states (i.e. your family or his), it is feasable that you go to Germany until your husband is deployed and then return to the states to have your child. If you're 14 weeks now, then you should be able to spend nearly all of the time he is in Germany with him, then return to the states before your third tri-mester (the time where they say you shouldn't fly.) Of course this is all up to you.

My husband just left for Baumholder 03 Jan 08. We are still waiting for my orders so I can meet up with him. He's pretty sure that he is going to be deployed to Iraq in March for 15 months. I am 14 weeks pregnant. I'm worried about being there by myself!! This is our first child. So, should I stay in the U.S., or should I go and be alone in a foreign country pregnant???? Help, need advise.

Ok, maybe I could have been a litle more specific. How is the actual post? I've never been on Ft. Meade. I'm from Maryland, so I know 95 all too well.

Hello there. Ft. Meade is a nice base to be station in. It's pretty nice upthere. the NSA is right there as well, well in the area. Ft.Meade is only 30 minutes away from DC. and trust me there's a lot to do up there. beware of I95.... TRAFIC is really bad between the hour of 0500 and 1000, and 1600-1900, but beside that it's all good. You will be in the DC erea, so becareful. but again there's a lot to do around there. so enjoy.
Oh yeah, it's pretty expensive up there also..

First of all, being station in Germany is a great opportunity to have specially you wont be paying for a ticket to get there. always keep in mind that you not only station in Germany, but in Europe. Most major countries are about 6 hours of driving appart. i even once travel to france and it took me only 6 hours, with stop in between. I was station in Gissen, a city about 4 hours away from Baumholder. Yeah the base is a pretty small base, and it is on top of a hill, but it aint that bad as many say it is. last time i was there was February 2005, and it snowed a lot there. it's pretty cold. but dont let that discourage you. Make sure you have a State side license. and trust me, if u have a family take time and travel, travel and travel. I just dont see why some one dont like it over there. i mean yeah the german are rud, and cold, but hey We are Americans and everywhere we go poeple tend to act cold around us. But shouldn't let that kill our spirit.
Honestly man, Baumholder is not that bad of a place. it's what you make of it just like anywhere else. Have fun overthere. and trust me there's a lot to do. On your time off, travel, and you will have a great time for being station in Europe!!
and Watch for you speed on..

I find it unfortunate that you do not enjoy Germany. It's a beautiful country, and I have had very few problems with any of the German citizens. Basically, to survive anywhere overseas, you have to live by the old saying "when in Rome, do as the Romans do". This is not the USA, so don't try to treat it as such. Yes, things are a bit pricey here. If you don't get out and do stuff you will hate it here. Get out, there's a lot of stuff to do. Don't be a barracks rat.

As to Smith Barracks: it is in a small town area. Not much to do there, and a car is almost a necessity. France and Luxemberg are close. Landstuhl Medical center and the large Rammstein/Kaiserslautern area are about 20-30 minutes away. It gets COLD in Baumholder. Make sure you bring a coat. I am not stationed there now, but have been, and make frequent trips there still. Good luck in Baumholder.
